Jean-Maurice Damour

Jean-Maurice is a freelance digital artist from France. He started working 8 years back but started freelancing digital art pieces since 3 years. When did you start designing and how?

I’ve been designing since 3 years, but I am familiar with photoshop and illustrator for past 8 years. I worked as an executant in graphic design for first 5 years and then photo-retoucher for 3 years. But at the same time I always wanted to do creative stuff and freelance. So in 2009 I decided to fulfill my dream and I started freelancing.

Your inspiration?

Just like other designers, I surf on the web a lot, read magazines etc. but my main inspiration is my mind that captures the surrounding and creates a picture for me.

What is your design process and what tools do you use?

Usualy, I think about the project and leave it in my mind for a while. After that I draw a rough map, open photoshop and I start designing the core artwork and built around it. Then I use layer masks and ajusment them lot to get good results. I like the blur tool to give the depth I want.

Designers you love?

I love so many designers e.g. Dylan Cole, Matte painter, Daniel Dociu, Matte painter, are simply amazing. Rembrant for the light. Michel Ange for all. I like Leonardo de Vinci for his “globalness”.
