When did you start designing, and how did you turn it in to your profession?
It all started by being the kid at school who could draw… then in I started designing in late 90s, having, studied 5yrs in total, 2yrs on National Diploma and 3yrs on BA Hons Graphic Design. Design jobs in my local rural area had and still are pretty scarce, so I moved down to Central London for the first 2 years of my design career, working in-house at an architectural firm…
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get my inspiration form everywhere, art, fashion, movies, all of the above really, but I would have to say web-browsing never fails to inspire, seeing all of the creative design talent in the world, only helps to make you push yourself to develop further and try new methods and approaches…
How do you create your illustrations, and what tools do you use?
For illustrative work, well there isn’t so much as a tried and tested process, its more about mood, ideas and more importantly fun! My most successful pieces seem to be those that I loose myself in, without distraction, influence or worry. I try my best to not have a style as such as I approach ever brief afresh, giving it its unique merit, sometimes it involves 3d elements which I create in C4d, other times I may only use vector work created in Illustrator, or a combination for the two, most of my illustrative work generally ends up in photoshop at some stage to add depth…
Designers that you love and admire?
The work Bryan Edmonson and his team over at SEA Design, I admire greatly and applaud all that do and continue to achieve. Neville Brody for being one of design trail blazers and initial inspiration in my early design career. Hey Studio over in Barcelona never fail to inspire and impress, maybe it’s the weather, maybe not, but they produce some beautiful design work in the beautiful city of Barcelona, Im very envious indeed….
