When did you start designing, and why?
I studied fine arts in Cape Town and then began illustrating a year after my degree ended. I’ve always loved drawing, from a young age, and so I started it professionally because I liked the idea of making a living from this thing I did for fun.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
A japanese woodcut artist by the name of Hasui is one of my current big inspirations. TIntin, Asterix, Spiderman and Batman comics (at least certain artists) also. But more and more, modern illustrators are, through envy and awe, pushing me to be better and attempt more.

How do you create your designs, and what tools do you use?
I begin with a pencil line drawing, scan it in and use it as my base layer, either as is or by converting it to vector lines. Then I layer and colour in photoshop, using scanned in textures such as coffee stains and various papers.

Designers that you love and admire?
James Jean, Tomer Hanuki, Ashley Wood, Jamie Hewlit, Audrey Kawasaki, Sam Weber.
